ESR Fall 2020 Virtual Visit Day

Normally each fall we invite you to attend the ESR 2020 Fall Visit Day, in conjunction with our Writing Colloquium. But this year, because of Covid-19, the Writing Colloquium has been postponed and we are instead planning a Fall Virtual Visit Day over multiple days in November, with a special focus on “Writing for Ministry” –the Master of Arts in Theopoetics & Writing, the Writing as Ministry M.Div. emphasis, and the Writing Certificate.

If you are interested in learning more about attending the Earlham School of Religion in any program, you are invited to participate in Sample Classes, a General Information Session, a Student Panel, an Alumni Panel, and a Financial Aid/Scholarship Info Session. Can’t join us for all sessions? You can join us for as few as one of the sessions or all the sessions! Learn more about the event and register:

After Christianity was comfortably established in the imperial court, it became politically advantageous to be a Christian—provided that one was the right sort. In response to the rise of nominal Christians, some people headed off for the desert, to protest, to reform, to hold up a higher vision. Others fled to the desert to dodge the draft, to avoid an arranged marriage to an undesirable person, or even to flee the law. They made a colorful group of nonconformists, saints and sinners on the mend. In this sample class we’ll explore some of the stories of these ancient Christian monastic and ponder their wisdom.
